So today for lunch I went to the Jamaican Jerk Shak in Orem. It's located just on Center Street across from Target. You can't miss the brightly colored shack with the grass roof. They don't have seating inside but they do have a drive through and also offer plastic picnic tables with umbrellas for shade to sit at if you choose. Playing on the loud speaker is the sounds of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Black Uhuru, and many others. I was actually wishing that I was on the beach in a lounge chair with a pina colada in hand enjoying the ocean, the sunshine, and the delicious Caribbean food.
The food there was ok. I decided to try the pork and chicken combo plate with a salad instead of rice w/mango dressing. I don't think it would be a place I would frequent. For me the spice level on the meat was good however, for those of you who like a lot of kick to your food you may have been disappointed. I think that my biggest complaint was that the meat didn't seem to be quality. I realize that for $6.99 I may not get primo meat but after being to Cafe Rio and other comparibly priced places I thought the meat was really fatty and not trimmed very nicely. It seemed as though there were still the tendony pieces in there and there were rather large clumps together with little meat and a moderate amount of fat. I was disappointed after I had driven by and smelt the smokiness of the the meat while it was cooking and thinking how fun it would be to have a little Jamaican place to go and eat at. So, I might go back and try the meat pockets but other than that I don't think I will be going back for more.
